A meeting of the Organizing Committee of the VIII Ecumenical Social Week was held on May 22, 2015 in the Ukrainian Catholic University. The event was attended by Fr. Dr. Ivan Datsko, President of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies; Halyna Bokhonko, Director of the Institute of Ecumenical Studies; Lyubov Khomyn, Head of Coordination of higher education and science, the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv regional state administration; Anna Datsko, Deputy Head of the Humanitarian Policy and External Relations of the Lviv regional council; Anna Hrapenyuk, Head of service of the Mayor of Lviv City Council; Iryna Tril, Chief Specialist of Lviv centre of social services for families, children and youth; Volodymyr Zalutsky, Head of Department of youth policy and social development of “Lviv Polytechnic” and Iryna Kitura coordinator of the 8th Ecumenical Social Week.


During the meeting it was agreed that the topic of the 8th ESW will be: “Education for changes: spirituality and innovations” and the date of the event will be 30 September -3 October 2015 in Lviv. The members of the Organizing committee emphasised on the relevance of the chosen topic and the necessity to discuss changes and reforms in the education system in Ukraine. The experts noted that the current state of the educational sphere needs adaptation to the requirements of modernity and higher educational establishments should offer students new European standards of education to be value-oriented in their work.

The participants of the meeting came to the conclusion that the responsibility of the government together with educational institutions, church, business and community organizations is to work on the development and implementation of systemic educational reforms to bring up a new generation of Ukrainians - conscious, socially active and competitive in the European and global labour markets citizens.

That is why the Organizing Committee of the 8th ESW focuses attention of the forum on the issues of reorganization of the educational system in Ukraine. At this difficult time for the entire country, we - conscious citizens have to support qualitative changes in educational space, working together on the implementation of new approaches and innovations in the sphere of education.
